When I was a teacher, I would always feel best about a lesson after I had taught it at least three times. In fact, when you're a new teacher, they say that by your third year of teaching is when you actually start to know what you're doing.

At Brain Fit, each client helps me to be a better and better coach. Each client is so different and brings with them different needs, personality and history.

When I first start working with a client, I want to get to know them- to get to know what they need, what they respond to and what works (or doesn't work) for them. Sometimes, that process is easy and goes smoothly. Other times, it takes longer to get to know the child I have in front of me.

I always strive to first- build a relationship with my client. The first day (weeks) are important. It's when we build trust, and a sense of safety. It's when the client learns the "ins" and "outs" of a Brain Fit session and the coach builds a better understanding of the client and the best course of treatment.

I know that every client I have worked with has taught me something. They all have taught me something that I am then able to use with someone else. Each client has their own unique needs and those needs help me to work with all kinds of different kids. They help me to learn what to do when sessions aren't going as smoothly as I would like, and they help me to become a better coach for it.

I could say that as a Brain Fit Coach, I will "know what I doing" after three years, but I don't think that's true. I feel confident that I already know what I'm doing- I'm just getting better. Unlike teaching, you don't teach the same "lesson" twice because all the kids are so different. Do we work with kids in generally the same way? Yes. Do they all respond to our sessions in the same way? Absolutely not.

I guess that's another thing I like about being a coach at Brain Fit. It's like every client is a new lesson- like I was saying about teachers- a new lesson. Not to say that I don't become a better coach over time-until I've taught that "lesson" three times. Quite the opposite because what I'm saying is that it does happen- I've become a better coach because of every client I've worked with.

I suppose one could just say that I'm gaining experience, right? The more you do something, the more experience you gain. And the more experienc(es), you gain. Those experiences teach you what you need to know. They give you opportunities to practice the things you need to and allow you to grow. Growth is important and is what enables you to move forward in so many ways- be it in a career, a relationship, or in life.

I'm thankful for the variety of clients that I have worked with. I'm thankful for all that they have taught me and how they have all made me a better coach. And- I look forward to working with (and learning from) even more clients in my role at Brain Fit.

I'm continuously becoming a better coach. I'm always growing and learning and becoming better at what I do. The experience, and experienc(es) have a profound, yet sometimes not-always-obvious effect on me.

I'm getting better and better. And, as I become an even better coach- who benefits? Well- me obviously.

But who else?

My Brain Fit clients of course.
