Welcome to the Brain FUNdamentals Blog!
I began this blog in May 2020 while working as the Lead Coach and Educator at Brain Fit Academy Inc. Today, I’m excited to continue sharing my insights and experiences—only now, I’m writing from the perspective of my own company, Brain FUNdamentals LLC! While the name has changed, my passion for this work remains the same!

I'm Here!
One of the difficult things about this job is that people don't know about the work that I do. When you're in need of someone to fix your pipes, you look up a plumber. When you need a therapist, you look for a therapist.

Story Time
It’s story time!
Once upon a time, there was a teacher named Amy. Amy was a good teacher. She loved working with her second grade classes and she loved helping each of the children grow and succeed in her class.

Mothers
If you are in the United States, then you will know that today is Mother's Day. It's a day to honor mothers and all that they do for their families and their children.

Walking the Loop
In a previous post titled "Out of the Loop", I talked about "The Learning Loop" and how it relates to us and our children. If you haven't read it yet, I suggest you read that post now in order to fully understand what I'm about to say.

Thoughts
"Did you ever wonder....?" That is what the famous TV presenter Andy Rooney would often say during his few minute snippets at the end of the TV show "60 Minutes".

This is Me
Remember that saying- "The man behind the mask" ? Of course, with Covid-19 that has probably taken on a whole new meaning for all of us. But anyway- I've been thinking about that saying a lot since I started the facebook page for Brain FUNdamentals.

Magic
Sometimes it feels like magic- this work of ours at Brain Fit Academy.
This little six year old girl had had a rough morning. It was now afternoon and when she arrived with her mother for her session, she didn't want to come out of the car.

How Long is a Piece of String?
I recently attended the annual Breakthroughs International Conference for the first time. The conference took place in Malaysia, but was online this year due to COVID-19. Since many of you may not be aware of this organization, let me explain. Breakthroughs International is the over-arching organization under which Brain Gym® International falls.

Balance- Part II
Sometimes, it's hard to find balance. It's too easy to shut the world off, pretend like things aren't there. Responsibilities, problems or situations that easily bop you ''out of the loop".

I did it!
You know when you finish something you've been working really hard on, and when you get to the end you have mixed feelings about it?
Yesterday, I finished my last required course in order to become a Licensed Brain Gym® Instructor/Consultant and with that, comes mixed feelings.

Balance
Balance is such a big word. And by big, I mean used in so many ways.
People talk about balance in life. We talk about balance in our emotions and in our bodies. We talk about balance in our relationships and balance in the world.

Better
When I was a teacher, I would always feel best about a lesson after I had taught it at least three times. In fact, when you're a new teacher, they say that by your third year of teaching is when you actually start to know what you're doing.

Gratitude
In honor of this new site for my blog, I am writing about gratitude. There are so many things to be grateful for when I think about my life since Brain Fit came into it. In the post titled "Thankful", that I wrote last Thanksgiving, I listed many things that I was thankful for. Today, I continue in that spirit with more gratitude.

Work
My new, seven year old client looked at me and exclaimed "That was work?" I smiled and replied "Yeah- it's not the same kind of work you have to do when you're in school or something like that, is it?"

Problem Solving
I was sitting on the sidelines of my Brain Gym® 104 class. We were on Zoom and the participants were working together to practice a few of the movements I had taught them.

I'm Ready
I always knew I wanted to be a teacher. From the time when I was about eight or nine years old and (faithfully) watched "Little House on the Prairie". Laura Ingalls Wilder was a teacher and I wanted to be a teacher just like her. In fact, I wanted to do a lot of things that Laura could do. I even wore my hair in long braids just like Laura, for- I don't know- years?!?

I'm Done
I believe the official name is "Pandemic Fatigue". Eleven months into this COVID-19 pandemic and I am done with it. I am tired of the constant myriad of changes. I am tired of not being able to take my kids out places. I am tired of wearing a mask (although I still do!). I am tired of there being sadness and grief for so many.

Teachers
I remember when I first learned about Brain Gym®. I was teaching second grade at the time and those "buzz words" circulated around-first at my school and then the district.

Patterns
Patterns are all around us. They are in nature, they are in our bodies (like the motor patterns of the primitive reflexes) and they are in our behavior.

Thankful
In this crazy year of 2020, amidst a pandemic that threw the world into chaos, I am thinking about tomorrow's Thanksgiving Day and all that I am thankful for in regards to Brain Fit Academy.
